I am a Puerto Rican woman who grew up with very little, became a first-generation graduate of Columbia University, and somewhere in between all of that, had to learn the hard way that achievement without self-knowledge is just a beautiful kind of lost.
My mom raised 13 children and I was right there alongside her — doing chores, running errands, changing diapers, making bottles. All the things. There were days she would just leave. At the time I used to get so mad. But I get it now. She needed breathing room — and there was none of that at home with all the noise and chaos. I built this for the moms who are running on empty. I wish my mom had something like this.
I created this work before I became a mother. And then motherhood arrived and changed everything — and clarified everything. Because when you are responsible for shaping another human being, the question of who you are stops being abstract. It becomes urgent.
I do not teach women how to become someone new.
I help them remember who they already are.
